Semi-Permanent Makeup
Cosmetic Tattooing
What is cosmetic tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing is the art of placing specifically designed cosmetic tattoo pigments into the designated facial area. Cosmetic tattooing is more superficial than body art tattoos and the pigments used are extremely different to inks used on the body.
Although it is known as semi-permanent because it fades, as your skin will never go back to its original state it could be considered permanent.
How many visits are needed?
Two visits are required to complete your cosmetic tattoo procedure. Failure to attend your second visit within the allocated time (12 weeks from the first visit), will forfeit your second visit. The second visit is needed to perfect your new tattoo. At this appointment small changes can be made, colour adjusted and shape slightly tweaked.
Some clients who; have oily skin, take medications, are extremely active or decide on a darker colour, may need a third visit. Please note that there may be an additional charge for this.
How long does cosmetic tattooing last?
On average most clients get between 8 – 18 months out of their cosmetic tattoo before needing a maintenance visit, however this changes vastly from one person to another. No exact time frames can be guaranteed, nor should you compare your longevity to that of another.
Every effort is made by Katie to ensure the longevity of every tattoo, by providing the most up to date and state of the art techniques and aftercare.
If a client chooses not to continue with cosmetic tattooing, their initial design will get lighter and lighter, however your skin is unlikely to return to its former state
Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?
Numbing agents are used throughout each procedure to ensure client comfortability. Most clients do not feel any discomfort. However, this varies depending on the area being treated and a client’s individual pain threshold.
Why does the pigment fade?
There are a few reasons why cosmetic tattoo fades, these include but are not limited to:
- Pigments are used for cosmetic tattooing which are different to tattoo inks and are designed to be broken down by the body.
- The depth of cosmetic tattooing is more superficial than the depth of a body art tattoo.
Factors which affect cosmetic tattooing retention includes but is not limited to; vitamin and mineral levels of client, medical circumstances, sun exposure, facial exfoliation, activity levels, skin type (oily, dry, combination), aftercare procedure.
Katie provides each client with the best possible treatment and post care advice to ensure the longevity of each and every tattoo.
What equipment is used for the procedure?
A digital machine specifically designed for cosmetic tattooing is used to complete powder brow, lash line and lip blush tattooing procedures. This creates a soft, pixilated effect.
A single use, fully controlled hand held microblade is used during microblading to create crisp, textured strokes. During a combination brow procedure, both machine and microblade are used.
What’s the difference between each treatment and the results?
- Powder brow is designed to create a softer powder effect, very similar to powder makeup.
- Microblading is a tattooing technique which uses a small handheld tool made of several tiny needles to add semi-permanent pigment to the skin creating the appearance of hair strokes for a fuller yet natural looking brow.
- Combination brows, also known as combo brows, are a semi-permanent cosmetic technique that combines microblading and powder brows to create fuller, more defined eyebrows.
- Lash line tattoo is where we tattoo the lash line, giving the appearance of thicker fuller lashes and a dark lash line.
- Lip blushing is a semi-permanent tattoo that can enhance the colour and shape of your lips which gives the appearance of fuller more defined lips. This is done by depositing colour ink into your lips and along your lip line to improve the overall look. The colour can be subtle to give natural-looking results, or darker to give a bolder looking lip line and colour.
What is the healing process?
Your tattoo will go through a 4-week healing process which will involve them initially being dark for up to 5 – 7 days, the area will then flake and the true colour will show over the total 4 weeks healing time.
Clients should understand the final healed result will look different to the initial tattooed treatment where they will be softer and less defined.
All results vary per person.
How is the tattoo designed?
Semi-permanent make-up is designed to enhance what you have naturally, or replace something which was once there. This means that Katie will only carry out the procedure, if the shape is suitable. All areas are fully measured and assessed in line with a client individual skull size and face shape, and the procedure will only start once both Katie and the client are in full agreement.
Symmetry
Nobody’s face is symmetrical; therefore, it is impossible to make your eyebrows 100% symmetrical. Although every effort is taken to create the illusion of perfectly symmetrical eyebrows, actual symmetry is never going to happen.
Is it possible to work on existing tattooing?
Every client will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Katie will instruct your further about whether she is able to work on top of your existing work.
